London life in Swansea

Only been back to work for a week and already Christmas and New Year feel like a distant memory. Four deadlines and a discussion group to lead all before the end of January, looks like I won't get to ease myself slowly into 2006. I thought life in Wales was going to be much more laid back than this!

ah, I am struggling with the opposite. after being used to managing my own patient load etc I am starting right from scratch in this new job and am very much being treated with kid gloves. I'm desperate to have a little responsibility and bored silly! is there ever a line between a good workload and too much/little?

another question I often ask myself is are we really sposed to enjoy work? I mean, its ok, it passes the time, but I'd still always rather be at home. I can think of a million things I'd rather do, but can you get paid for drinking tea with friends?

If you have babies, it's acceptable. To stay at home drinking tea that is.

Ah, Jon, I was wondering when you would post again. With deadlines I find we very often let ourselves in for them. When I offered to speak in church next Sunday it was last October and seemed like an age away. Not that I'm actually speaking, you understand. I see myself more as a facilitator.

no way, I'd buy loads of cardmaking stuff and make greetings cards all day, and I'd open up a cafe and pay people to run it (though I'd be the creative influence!)and I'd drink chai tea lattes all day. and then I'd write a book, and have lots of babies.then I'd run parenting courses.see the only thing keeping me in work right now is paying the bills, the moment jon gets a well paid job and a little scriv comes along-forget it!

Liz, you are right. I foolishly let myself in for every single one of the deadlines now facing me. Looking forward to Sunday, will you be giving us the lowdown on the Hinds theory of evolution?

Josie, I probably would still work. I do enjoy my job, although not to the same extent as your housemate, that is weird.

Jodie, three months ago I was complaining about lack of responsibility etc., now I wish I was back there, grass is always greener. A little Scriv, what a wonderful thought.

I think you'd rather be busy than not but it's all about balance and seasons. Just see this as a season of work!

There's no way I'd work if I won the lottery. I'd employ all my friends to entertain me and live a life not too disimiliar to hugh grant in about a boy! Would anyone apply for the job of being my friend?

Says you, swanning around, living the life of Riley in Spain, living in all expenses paid hotels.

I might be workshy, but at least I have a bum.

yeah its true, those first six months of proper grown up work hit you like a sledge hammer

found my niche. we have a quick HIV diagnosis clinic on tuesday afternoons. We get paid at ward manager level and its amazing work - I love it, in the kind of wierd way you can love telling people they have HIV - not sure I can really explain it in words. think I enjoy seeing the rawness of human emotions, and being there to help. ooh analyse that!

An aside:

Jon, do you know anyone who has a DVD of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?

Liz Hinds said...

Okay, Indy problem solved!

Trevor, you are a melodramatic tart. Put a bit of effort in.

Jon, you do have a bum. And what a bum it is.

Jodie, how do people tend to react when you tell them? And are they generally from similar backgrounds?

Scriv, well done for making this a truly masculine post. We've almost managed to get rid of all the girls now. Hurray! Now we can let our bellies hang out and scratch ourselves with no fear.

how lovely, uniting all the nations, we've even got a little foreigner joining us. will any one join me in singing a little michael jackson 'heal the world, make it a better place'

enough of that. I now retract my earlier statement about being frustrated at work. I was left in charge the other day. not fun. I had to deal with all the beligerent bastards making complaints and generally spend the whole day being shouted at, saying sorry and trying to problem solve. those of you who know me well know my aversion to any kind of confrontation, so it was a stressful day, but at least I have now grown a pair of balls, professionally speaking at least.
